Noah Esbensen (born in 2000) is a Danish YouTuber responsible for the 2022 Copenhagen Mall Shooting, where he would kill three people (one being a Russian man and two being 17-year-olds) and injure 27 others (seven caused by his gunfire), before getting arrested. Before this attack, he would spam videos on YouTube pretending to commit suicide.
Why He Should Care About The Consequences Of His Actions
[edit | edit source]The nature of his social media activity often promotes self-harm and suicide. Please don't add redeeming qualities, and if you do, please revert it, as nature is often disturbed and must be carefully handled. |
- When he was younger, Esbensen was diagnosed with schizophrenia and psychosis. When he was given antipsychotics to treat the condition, psychiatric officials later ignored that diagnosis and treated him for autism and lessened his dosage in the months leading up to the shooting.
- This caused him to gain interest in serial killers and mass shooters, citing Randy Stair, the perpetrator of the Eaton Township Weis Markets Shooting, as one of his inspirations, claimed his videos "opened his eyes" and disclosed this to his therapists.<ref>https://nyheder.tv2.dk/krimi/2023-06-10-mor-til-fieldsgerningsmand</ref>
- Originally, he wanted to commit a school shooting near his apartment, but didn't bring himself to commit the originally planned shooting.
- He also left behind handwritten notes about killing people, along with a floor plan and schedule of the kindergarten he planned to shoot up.<ref>https://www.cnn.com/2022/07/03/europe/copenhagen-mall-shooting-intl/index.html</ref>
- A day before going to the mall, he would spam videos onto his YouTube channel, pretending to commit suicide with a rifle and pistol and said that a specific type of psychiatric medication did not work.
- He also uploaded images of himself pretending to be dead with fake blood leaking out of his mouth two days before the shooting. When he entered the mall, he went directly to the restroom and tried to get help from a suicide lifeline for 16 minutes, in vain. This was due to the life line not being active in the summer vacation, but they didn't close the line, resulting in callers being put in a non-existent line.<ref>https://www.dr.dk/nyheder/indland/paa-et-toilet-med-riffel-og-ammunition-ventede-fields-skyder-i-16-minutter-paa</ref>
- On 3rd July 2022, Esbensen went to the Field's mall, where he would head to the movie theatre area to kill a Russian father of two and a theatre employee, before heading to the centre of the mall, where he would kill another person and injure 27 others before getting arrested.<ref>https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-62030919</ref>
